About the plant

Pang da hai is worth watching once. The dried seed is a hard wrinkled brown thing the size of an olive; drop it in hot water and within a few minutes it bursts its coat and expands into a soft translucent brown jelly many times its original volume, filling the cup. The tree is a tall Southeast Asian sterculia of Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Hainan, and the seeds are gathered from the forest floor after they fall.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

These seeds swell many times over in liquid. Take the extract well diluted and with plenty of water, and do not use it if you have an intestinal obstruction or a narrowed oesophagus. It has a laxative action — reduce the amount if the stool loosens. Keep to short courses. Not for use in pregnancy, and not for children.
